Modern paintings with a classical beauty

Norman Engel is an artist who is currently painting poetic works of women and girls. His work is stylized and full of color. I found his web page a couple of years ago, and have been visiting it off and on. He posts new paintings all of time. These paintings are a pleasure to see.

Milton Avery

The simplicity and color harmonies of Milton Avery are outstanding! I love the abstract quality of his figure drawing. What a master he was. "March In Red" 1950 Milton Avery

Matisse (my all time favorite)

I thought that I would begin my posts with a couple of paintings by my all time favorite artist, Henri Matisse.
Models at Rest 1928

Look at this wonderful painting. This woman is wearing cute house shoes. Probably because the tile floor is cold. I also like the way that Matisse left the girls face blank. The color and simple drawing is beautiful.
